Boat At The Docks
Boat At The Docks
Fixed a boat for you
waited for you to come
but dusky dark fell
and I was the fool
I would have staked my life
would have bet the house
but you left me high and dry
tear stained cheeks on this night
there is no happy ending in sight
because what could I do?
I tried to buy your love
but I should have known
that would never be enough
and all to show....left in the cold
the boat never sailed
you choose differently
and baby I never recovered
Said all the right things I thought
danced to your drum
would never leave you
not at any cost
made that giant birthday cake
the one you couldn't do without
but I never was that person
a too late epiphany
but I don't need you now
I couldn't stand your sympathy
because would could I do differently?
I gave you my heart literally
served it up, waited for your love
but here's to hindsight
you didn't deem me good enough
the boat lies with chipped paint
asleep in the docks
scared to take it out again
so despite it's potential
it slowly...quietly....rots.....
