 The penguin and the albatross

The penguin and the albatross were once the closet of mates
But this is a story about differences and the problems it creates
The penguin of course is a flightless bird
And to think it could fly is simply unheard
But the penguin was a popular guy and he loved his family
And within the depths of the sea he was never lonely
The albatross on the other hand
Loved to fly in the sky and hated the land

It all happened one day when the penguin saw the albatross in the sky
And they would call to one another with their own different cry
The Albatross was a lonesome bird but she began to love the penguin
And when days went past and he wasn't there she began to miss him
But from the sea or from another adventure he would come back and say he was ok
And as the months went by, they became closer day by day
And during the Albatrosses migration in the chilling winter
It was the penguin's turn to really miss her

Then one day the Penguin saw that the albatross had returned
But his little heart of love would soon be spurned
High upon the cliffs the albatross had built a nest
So the penguin climbed up to see her and was soon nuzzling within her breast
It was a long and hard arduous climb
But it was worth it as the days they spent together were amazing and divine
But the penguin knew he never liked heights
And this was the centre of all their fights
The albatross couldn't understand why the penguin was so unhappy
And the once beautiful albatross soon became very snappy

The penguin eventually soon went back to the ground
Whilst high above he heard a wailing sound
But the penguin knew he could never be a bird in the air
But the Albatross wouldn't listen, she didn't care
But the beating heart within the penguin still loved his bird
Although all the other penguins thought this was simply absurd
But regardless the penguin said he would come back to her soon
And be with her again, before the next full moon

Then one night the albatross came flying by
With such hatred and doubt within her cry
Each screeching call tore the friendship to pieces
And she continued to curse the penguin and all his species
Little by little his feelings faded for his friend
And as she continued to abuse him; his love came to an end
One day the penguin simply had enough and slipped back into the sea
And although deeply hurt and sad, he was at least free

He didn't hate the albatross because he understood her pain
But she broke his heart and his dreams and now things were not the same
He knew that night that the albatross was not the bird for him
He didn't want a bird that could fly but a bird that could swim.
