We rubbed, and rubbed and rubbed our eyes,
The waters that seemed to pour from these orifices
Was so profuse, it literally drained us
Leaving us weak and dehydrated;
Painfully waiting for the night;
Grasping on the hope
That relief will come with the cool darkness
Reckoned, when that infernal ball of torture
Falls beneath the horizon --
A concept my new eyes cannot yet appreciate.
Our condition must improve with each passing day,
The guides have reassured us
And the wonders of this new place will be soon become our lot
For the serpent has insured our dominion
And the safety of our kind
Despite the perils that lie ahead…
We are forgetting the past
Each day our eyes love this new world
Each day they forget the old…
--- so they tell us.
Soon we won't remember
How we used the tunnels
As portals to the wormholes
And stepped across the vast galaxy
In one thoughtless bound
Then reemerged from the depths below…
This evening our guides have promised
To point out our home star
Somewhere in the deep night sky.
We will shutter in awe of the universe
And sink in the knowing
That we will never see that place again
And that our children's, children's children
Won't know the love of our Master's glowing face
The beaming, photonic radiance of his giant white beard
And the gifts he bestowed upon every one of us
To start our lives upon this fearsome orb
It is getting cooler now,
And not so bright, as before
My sore and swollen eyes will soon make the adjustment
And I will begin to see with them, for the first time.
The excitement of this propels me
And the memory of my arduous journey,
Eclipsed and rapidly aging,
Has settled down to rest somewhere…
Deep within the back of my mind
