Hi Folks: It has been my privilege to know some really great cowboys over the years.
This short poem is dedicated to one such man. Mr. James Scaggs.
This one is for you Drifter. Your pal Montana
The Powder River Drifter
A man of the west honest and true
Shuns the gamblin drinkin and cussin too
Never looks for trouble always stands tall
But he won't run if it comes to call
Humbled by a woman's soft and gentle smile
Always tips his hat that's his style
Good with a gun quick on the draw
Would never ever break to the law
Trusts his life to God not to fate
He's always true to his saddle mate
A cowboy of truth set in his ways
A man of honor through all his days
Enjoys a good old cowboy song
He know not to set by the fire to long
Lookin back down his trail
In all he's done he never failed
