Settling Down. (M.P.Bridger)

Give me time to give up smoking,
Give me time to give up beer,
Give me time to give up Women
But give me roughly fifty years.
Give me time to be more worthy,
Give me time to settle down,
Always then to be respected,
Never more to act the clown.
Give me girls who want commitment,
Give me family, duty bound,
Weekend outings with planned children,
In the pub I won't be found.
Give me wedding anniversaries,
Give me mortgages to pay,
Give me years of compromising
But let me have the final say.
There's just one thing that's bound to blemish
My yearning for domestic bliss,
The trouble is that I'm a liar
So don't believe a word of this...
