Staring with fierce determination
Through the windscreen,
I knew it was now or never.
The guy next to me knew it too.
We both had a job to do
And this was make-or-break time.
My heart thumped like a jack-hammer,
I felt sick with fear.
The wheel was slippery under my sweating palms
And white knuckles held it in a talon-like grip.
The passenger was calm.A real professional.
He'd done this sort of thing a thousand times before.
Swallowing my fear I pulled away from the kerb,
Taking a torturous route,constantly looking
For any police cars.
They always made me jumpy...
My heart lurched as we passed one outside the bank
But I knew I had to go round the block once more
Just so this guy could be sure.
When he'd made up his mind with a nod, he said;
"Congratulations.You've passed your driving test."
