We read it in the paper everyday
Another man is found guilty today
Innocent lives suffer and people die
It all started with one little tiny lie
Yes, Eve was the one where sin began
It would affect all mankind over again
None of us can escape the perils of sin
We are born with that nature within
One day the police arrive at your door
Your son never broke the law before
A girl was tortured in a shopping mall
As you hear the report you begin to bawl
Your son was on the right path all along
How could he do something so wrong?
Charges are pressed and he is sent to jail
You feel so helpless that you have failed
There is a trial and the judge hears the case
The evidence is worse than a slap on the face
Then the judge announces his final penalty
Life in prison with no parole for cruelty
Suddenly a man steps to the front of the room
He says he will take his punishment and doom
Later you learn he has been doing that for years
You cannot understand that love in all your tears
Then this same man is sentenced to die on a cross
Why was he willing to suffer such agony and loss?
You learn His name is Jesus and you clearly see
He died to pay for your sin and now you are free
Jesus is not an ordinary man but He is God's Son
Everyone who believes knows their victory is won
We cannot beg God's mercy by anything that we do
The debt of sin has been stamped paid in full for you
1 Peter 2:24 (NIV)
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree,
so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness;
by his wounds you have been healed.
