Each morning, feeling light returning
to my heart as the rising sun
dispels darkness from my world,
I am often brought to tears
as I reflect all the years
of goodness America
dispels throughout the world.
Where would the landless be today
without the selfless gifts America has
bestowed to all the suffering,
poverty-stricken people,
with a seemingly predestined
bad enough luck to be born into
the dark world of hunger,
thirst, heat, cold, and orphaned
emotional deprivation or worse,
abuse.
I can never stop wondering how we
end up in the spot we are born.
Is there a pre-existence lottery?
I will forever be greatful for the boon
of ending up on the shores of the USA.
I have been taught:
"To whom much is given,
much is required."
May we always, as a Country in His sight,
be worthy of the gift we are given
by the Heavenly luck-of-the-draw.
