Chasing Fire

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

With each breath I take
A part of my soul becomes erased…
It melts off of my skin
In the sweat that seeps within

And I laugh
I laugh at myself for living too fast
And I should know by now
That the feeling cannot last

But I chase it again and again
Though I'll never obtain the same sin
I still enjoy the ride
While I swim against the tide

Is it not yet my time to go?
Just one more taste and I should know
And then I see that death can't win
I feel immortal and do it again

Until I see faces staring down at me
From above the tomb where I now sleep
So I guess I've learned what I aspired to know
And now it is my time to go

And I'll never again have the opportunity
To chase the high that has stolen me
