TODAY'S THE DAY

Five years now
Somehow
I've lived alone
No man here at night

Neither much during the day
I do what I want to
Except for working
And we all must work

Is another half decade
Going to past me by
In this same house
With the epic view of sunset

Going down over the hill
Of dirt or canola
According to what
That farmer choses to grow

It's went fast
That is what life does
The older you get
Day by year it goes

Babies replace grandmas
Mommies do the things
You had energy for once
Thirty seems young

Anyway the silence
Gets to be the norm
And the TV off brings
Blessings from a higher man

Who will always be with around
If the human ones cannot
So they can live with her
The women who steal the fantasies

Of poets, lovers, and mermaids
Who swim in the sea of blue and red
Dry off their silver tears with hair
That has to be colored burgandy

Because purple or black
Are the colors for furnerals
Showing hues in between
The stirrups and the coffin

All colors of the rainbows
Where the pot of gold lies
And God's there at home
Waiting for me to listen

As I close my eyes
Talk to him and drift away
Thankful I have one man
Who will care for me always

Today's the day I pray
As so many others
For my children
Now fathers and mothers

Not my time
Only theirs
To do the practical
While I may dream...
