Poetry For Everyday People

Together Alone

Where do dreamers go
when night is a broken
palace without love,

wine and us, thoughts
and us, locked doors and us,

work done, shoes off, comfortable
cloth on, heating microwave food,
ordering take out, flipping through
channels where nothing seems to apply,

got about an hour before we begin
to fall asleep, get up to do it again,
and sometimes yesterday seems like today
or was it today, is it Tuesday?  Wednesday?

microwave beeps, something is ready,
but we need more, color is dying
and we're chasing rainbows in poems,

you and I share the nights,
in the heart of life.
