The Sky Looks Like It Can Care Less

The sky looks like it can care less

                              after the traditional fireworks display

The sky looks like it can care less
The folks on the river are drinking air
By the blue water-lilies and waltzing cicadas
As if something momentous were about to happen

And in the famed red of the moonlight
A make-up artist comes out and paints the skin
              of the sky
The pretty indifferent face turns away divinely
It makes the crazed public's teeth throb

And red as garnets the old fish in the river
Watch the fools and watch me -- a fool --
And take in some of the Cosmetics Demonstration
With eyes fixed vividly on the Resurrection
