 Cellar Rat

Cellar Rat hides in the shadows,
away from the Landlord,
when he turns on the light,
and with a heavy tread,
climbs down the stone steps,
to change a barrel,
or collect another bottle of Scotch,
for the customers in the bar above,
in the pub where Cellar Rat lives.

Cellar Rat is a lone rat,
not a lonely rat,
just a lone rat,
not like the sewer rats,
who share their lives,
living and loving,
fighting and dying,
in the company of other rats.
Cellar Rat prefers to live,
his life alone.

Cellar Rat likes to drink,
the beer,
that the Landlord spills,
when he changes the barrel,
for the customers in the bar above,
in the pub where Cellar Rat lives.

The Landlord's wife doesn't like,
Cellar Rat,
the Landlord doesn't mind,
he accepts as a fact,
that Cellar Rat,
must live his life,
alone in the cellar,
below the bar,
in the pub where his customers drink.
