Walking in the furnace which is my city last night
Tripping over weeds willfully sprouting from the cracks of blight
I spotted an oasis along side the grey, beige dingy street.
Holly Hocks gracefully dancing in the wicked heat
Called me to sit down in their sidewalk classroom seat.
"Look at us and compare.
As we stretch our necks to the sky
we leave behind the dead husks
of our blooms gone by."
"If you will slow down the motor
that shoves you to move
you will note that you and I seemingly
progress in the opposite mode."
"You believe you begin in the most beautiful state
and age continuously to become an ugly ingrate"
"However, if you would take the challenge
to see your plight differently
you would realize, with a spiritual perspective,
you are just like me."
"Like a fine wine and a great cheese,
your beauty improves with age.
It's all in your expectation each moment of your day
And it really helps, when you are sad or disheartened,
to just sit or kneel to pray."
So the next time you are down and thinking "life really sucks"
take a moment and remember the wisdom of the Holly Hock.
Inner beauty improves with age
Says the Holly Hock Sage.
