Rhymes of the Heart
Side By Side
This was another poetry challenge sent to me from John Flournoy.
This was what he told me to write.
(Explain in a poem the feelings of a single
mother who is up on the stage singing her
heart out to try and provide for herself and her child)
Side By Side
Up on this stage
for our livlihood
I'd sing here for hours
I know that I would
Each verse and each chorus
each low and high note
singing my heart out
just to keep us a float
This single Mother
here on this stage
my voice amply covers
a heart filled with rage
For the man who walked out
left his family alone
was no man at all
I'm glad that he's gone
In a room full of strangers
who don't give a damn
sometimes hard to preform
feeling all that I am
But I do it for us
its important you see
I'm singing my heart out
for there's no one but me
So I sing for our supper
with heart open wide
for it keeps us together
my child at my side
When the last notes been sung
I bow to the crowd
take my child in my arms
and walk away proud.
