Rhymes of the Heart

The Blue Rose

The rose once vibrant
A deep shade of red
Now blue like my heart
As if it had bled

The veins coursing through
The leaves on the stems
Now withered and dying
Nothing nourishing them

The red rose of Spring
Fades away in the Fall
Forlorn forgotten
But once it stood tall

The blue rose of life
Colored with heartache and pain
Doesn't cleanse and be whole
With the coming of rain

If only the heart
Worked in the same way
Pushing through with new growth
The next bright Spring day
