Heart Of The Matter

In His Time, He Was King!

He lives not a mile from my humble abode,
In a quiet cul-de-sac just off the main road,
This man is a legend, his name is well known,
In his time he was king, had a crown, had a throne,

I met him by chance in the centre of town,
I was laden with shopping, weighing me down,
I saw him before me; we walked down the stair,
He turned round, and looked, saw me struggling there,

I recognised him from the far distant past,
His name up in lights, Yes, this man was world class,
A gentleman now, he retired from the game,
Yet he still has charisma, he still looks the same,

He looked tall, dressed in black, with a style, debonair,
He held open the door with a definite flair,
Took hold of my bags, which he carried with ease,
As we walked to my car I searched for my keys,

Packed my bags in the boot, smiled and said “Cheerio”,
And I thanked him profusely, Hey, what do you know?
This man, a world champion, a real superstar,
Just carried my bags; all the way to my car.
