The Forgotten one
The Forgotten one
She sat in her chair
Her eyes shut but not asleep
Her mind somewhere else
As she is thinking so deep
Of times in her life
Oh how the years have flown
One moment she had little ones
But now they've left and grown
None of them could care for her
She's looked after in a home
She didn't want to leave her house
She was fine just on her own
They said she had to go there
She wasn't safe all by herself
If they just had helped a bit
But they were always somewhere else
Sometimes they came to visit her
Just a day in many weeks
This would make her very sad
When they left she would sit and weep
She cried for her abandoned hopes
All she thought would become
She always thought they would stay near
Not that she would hardly see them
When they were small
She was always there
The years they were cruel
They grew up and didn't care
Gone was her sweetheart
He passed long ago
Oh how she missed him
She did love him so
She stared out of the window
At the clouds above
Not knowing that but very soon
She would be back with her love
Came the morning after
They arrived at the home
Saying how really sad they were
That their beloved mother had gone
No guilt did they feel
As they took what was left
Of their poor mothers life
Just one day after her death
The staff brought some flowers
To add them to the day
As she was laid to rest
On that cold and wintry day
Nothing from her children
They wasn't even there
She looked down from heaven
And for once she didn't care
