ESCORT HOME
Escorted in solemn fashion
Carried on shoulders weighed down by the pain
Havoc is wreaked through the families with
Expressions gauged out by grief
Sobering thoughts of youth and all that is lost
They departed, fighting fit and keen
Accompanied by an eagerness
Only the brave wear
As armour to more frightening consequences
Their thoughts were on making a difference to the world
Of coming home resplendent in honour.
Not returning to our shores with their country's flag
Proudly veiling a polished coffin.
Wars have come and gone.
Millions of lads,
With bright futures beckoning,
Waded into a trouble strewn arena
Knowing nothing of youth and all that would be lost
