Joy's Terse Verse

The Girl In The Bed

The girl in the bed
gazed out through her fringe
at the face in the frame
that smiled from the wall.

She felt herself swoon
out through the space
that sucked at her guts
and rolled her out small.

She blinked in surprise
at the odd purple pig
that grunted in tune
and waltzed on her bed.

The girl called a nurse
with a loud piercing scream
as a cow dressed in pink
nodded it's head.

The girl in the bed
swallowed a pill
with a ghastly great gulp
and a strange silly stare.

In an instant the pig
and the cow in the cloud
waved as they flew
with a swoosh through the air.

The girl in the bed
lay back in the haze
and slipped into dream
so soft and so light.

The nurse tucked her in
and smoothed her brown hair
as she lay there so calm
so still and so quiet.
