COVERACK

COVERACK

As I sat on the harbour wall
Listening to the seagulls call,
I watched swifts dart to and fro
The birds put on a good show.

There was ever such a slight breeze,
Not even a swell on the seas,
Fishing boats settled on the sand
As the tide ebbed and left the land.

Men with fishing rods cast their line
Hoping on their catch they would dine,
Coloured floats bobbed all around
The sound of the reels seaward bound.

Yokels met to enjoy a chat
They were joined by the local cat,
Fishermen came to check their boats
With their wellies and oilskin coats.

Lobster baskets were put on board
Ropes were checked and secured,
Water removed by a hand pump
This would leave nothing in the sump.

People began now to move away
Sadly it was the end of the day,
I had to turn and have a look back
As the sun set on Coverack.
