FALL OF LEAVES
The exodus of summer
Record heatwave gone and dead
And now with autumn's commencement
A glorious profusion of red
Cold winds about us blowing
Dark nights draw further on
A fire burns in the hearth place
Memories of holidays all but gone
But now my favourite season
With walks in crisp clean air
On carpets warm and golden
The branches reach out bare
We sit with book in hand now
Bright flames that heat our skin
A sip from a mug of cocoa
A contentment forms within
A clock strikes in the background
Bitter winds howl fierce outside
Rattling doors and windows
Determined in its drive
But we are within these walls
And our love it keeps us close
Snuggled together side by side
Forever more it grows
