An army stands to attention
Resembling a battalion of tall monuments
Blazing emerald green majesty
With broad backs upright and poker straight
Saluting a clear blue sky whilst
Lining the kerb

Sunlight flickers through their reaching branches
And a light breeze dozes on veined leaves
Producing a muffled hum
As they float steadily downwards to land

Inches thick
And soft under foot as I throw my shoes
To meander down the road
