Morning freshness blew through my open window
The night had been heady
With an unbearable heat
That drove sleep away.
Tossing, turning,
This way and that
Until tiredness made me rise early

Fields stretched to view
With a new greenness
Tall pines waved gently,
Aromatic and wild,
As I stepped into this revived world

Birds seemed to be singing a bolder song
Leaves gleamed in the sunlight
As I lay myself upon the still damp ground

I closed my eyes to the silence
Drifting into previously unattainable slumber
Among dreams and delights
And visions
And handsome princes
