FROM   THE   TOP   OF   A   HILL

Puffing and panting
For three solid hours
Battling with branches
Stopping to look at wild flowers
Trudging through streams
Jumping tree root
Stopping to shake
The odd stone from my boot
Arriving at the top
A quivering shamble
Peering over the scenery
Certainly worth the ramble
The air was so fresh
So close to the sky
As light as a bird
I felt I could fly

Looking down on the world
My heart skipped a beat
The most wonderful feeling
A sanctuary,
Life's retreat.
