Lay in blackness
Contemplating sleep,
And yet those dragons
Roam free in my mind.
Lucid thoughts swelter in the night air
And images of a steep hill before me.
The first step is the steepest
And after agonising an eternity,
My foot tentatively steps forward.
Halfway up and you appear in my vision,
Smiling and beckoning me further and
I follow willingly,
Reaching the grassy crest,
Ablaze in afternoon sunshine.
On hearing your voice,
I am destined to follow,
Though there is no path over the other side.
An echoing black cavern awaits,
Infinity calls me to a final resting place.
