BYGONE    AGE

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
A window in the heavy oak doorway
Showed a hint of the staircase
With sweeping rise

Elegant balustrades of wrought iron
Curling nobly
With grandeur aside

The stroke of eight
A uniformed butler entered
Immaculate and full of pride

A flurry of ivory lace
Outside in the lobby
As the ladies to fare arrive

Those elegant noblewomen
With porcelain features
Stylishness beyond compare

Their corsets pulled in
To a mere hand span
Revealing neckline so some may dare

They dine on pheasant
And wild salmon
And then offer to take their leave

Their men puff on cigars
And swig claret
And old yarns they do retrieve

While those beauties
Vacate to their bedrooms
The evening is over and
A maid is at hand
Smiling masks and corsets they are relieved
Oh, for that bygone land
