Working Poor
What are the lessons we teach
American children
when their parents work
24/7 and they remain poor?
Latch-key kids,
Left alone,
All too often
become pregnant or
crime prone.
Evil preys on the child
who stays poor.
This, sadly, I am sure.
America, who are we?
Privitized prisons,
medical care out of reach,
not enough money spent
for poor children
to care for and teach?
Is it poor children's fault?
Why can't we open state and federal vaults
and provide for poor children?
What will America look like
in twenty years,
if we don't invest in them
and put to rest
poor children's fears?
