 REFLECTIONS

Cast a glance at that worried reflection
In a mirror that never tells me lies
While peering in even closer
I need to fully scrutinize
Because this profile has to be painted
To cover the traumas of a hidden past
The concealer and powder are superficial
But provide a confident mask

The cracks of disappointment don't show now
The lines of disdain are quashed
Sorrow is washed over and
Disapproval a thing of the past

Though now I have mellowed at this stage in my life,
Take me as you find me
Or don't take me at all

That mask is quite unnecessary
I peel it off and like what I see
At last I'm free of the hang-ups
I'm free,
I'm free to be me
