Not one to shirk my responsibilities,
Never avert the course I want to follow,
Yet your treatment of me,
Has often left me feeling hollow.
My own life is my own pleasure and
That now stems from being so secure,
I don't need anyone other than myself,
In my abilities I am quite sure.
Don't look upon me to be your pillar,
At this point I have confidence in droves,
Don't get exasperated when I question and
Then make me assume I am being opposed.
If you want to have a different kind of life,
Then let go, and let this bird fly free,
Because this is what I have promised myself, and
I believe it is right for me.
It has taken a life-time to get here,
And here is where I shall forever stay,
If this isn't to be an equal endeavour,
I shall have to go alone, my own way.
