Poverty Is Big Business
Poverty is big business
is my guess.
Otherwise, why would the world
remain a poverty-stricken mess?
I heard a story on NPR say
that people from around the world
are making $13 a day,
in Iraq.
How poor must a person be
to wash pots and pans,
clean, and cook in Iraq's misery.
How can private corporations,
profiting from the war,
feel good about that.
I find the slogan "We pay them more
than they can make back home"
weak at the very best.
Only death will give these poor souls
a much needed rest.
