Rhymes of the Heart
The Vision
Walking home late last night
In a melancholy mood
Saw a wretched old man
Those he spoke to were rude
There was something in his manner
No threat did I feel
The hurt in His eyes
He couldn't conceal
I walked over to Him
Had to hear what He said
And through trembling lips
He said, Jesus bled
A voice of authority
One gentle and wise
Why do they forsake Me
He said, to my surprise
Father forgive them
Was all I could say
I fell to my knees
And started to pray
He grasped both my hands
Said thank you my child
Through the grime and the dirt
I know that he smiled
Journey the right path
Till it's your time
And the stairway to Heaven
One day you will climb
The vision left me
I woke with a start
But the memory lives on
Down deep in my heart
