Heart Of The Matter

The Black Night Come, And Gone

I saw you stand by the window,
Broad shoulders fill the frame,
Silhouetted in the morning,
My heart called out your name,

You didn't see me smile at you,
Nor hear my morning song,
You just stood in deep contentment,
In the place you so belong,

Waves lapping on the shingle shore,
Sunbeams dance around your head,
You raise your eyes to northern sky,
Your thoughts are overheard,

You turn around to look at me,
I meet you in the dawn,
My arms outstretched to greet you,
The black night come,
And gone.
