Life of a Single ParentYou are either coming or going At least your life is not boring Perhaps you are a single mother Your kids fight with each other Their father moved out of town But he rarely was ever around He worked sixty hours a week With a short time left after sleep If only you could find a better way With more time for them each day But there is always so much to do Your job takes all your energy too Your first baby boy in the carriage Brought great joy to your marriage Another boy and a precious little girl Completed your family, what a thrill That love has vanished and is now gone What happened that it all came undone? Your vows were until death you do part You meant every word from your heart I don't have the answer, but I do know this God must be the center of all love and bliss That was the secret of my parents' 50 years Amidst the good times and through the tears Make time for your kids while you still can It will involve sacrifice and having a plan You have a short time before they are grown Soon they will have children of their own Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. © by Carol Salter on 10/18/07 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
