The Sound

For all of us who have and still hear the sound.

There is a sound embedded in our minds
That draws us to past times
Sitting in the yard on a peaceful day
There comes the sound from far away
Others can't hear it the way we can
Only a few know it most don't understand
What's locked away inside
Of thoughts of so many who died
Listening for that WOP WOP WOP
Coming from the downward prop
As the Hueys flew hoping to win
New troops in then out with wounded men
WOP WOP WOP that distance sound
Shattering that inter peace we have found
That one sound will always last
Carrying us back to the past
In our memories its set in stone
Never to leave us alone
