 Evanui ( Elven Fair )

For Baby Aaron

Once upon a time
In a place very near, there was
A tiny life that came suddenly
Insulted from the womb
Valued  meanly
Full of poison not his own

This tiny boy
With bright, endless eyes of a baby seal
That came from the deep water
Emerging and washing through our hearts
Like the endless waves against the shore
Till one is indistinguishable from the other
Till one cannot be without the other

This precious life that is loved
This little one who is protected
                    - now -
Surrounded by this cadre of Women
These sentinel Amazons

This Mother of Earth -
These Sisters of Fire -
This Aunt of Water -
This Aunt of Air -

What makes a family?
What brings certain Souls together?
After birth, not just before?
As I ask these questions -
I think of Aaron
And I know..

What makes a family?
It when we find we care less
About blood, and more about hearts
Is who we choose to love,
Whatever the cost could be.

It is more than who you would die for
It is who you would live to fight for.
