FIRST STEPS
Shuffling backwards and forwards
Creeping
Crawling
Buffeted corners on furniture
While she makes a safari
Of the living room
Reinforced gates all over
Safety plugs
Valuables set on high shelves
Out of reach of inquisitive fingers
But now,
She's found her feet!
Dragging herself up to tip toe
With defiance written
Across a smug sweet face
And standing there
Swaying too and fro
First left
Then right
Then a hurried six step dash
That led to Daddies waiting arms and
Being swooshed into the air
With congratulatory kiss
She's found her feet at last
