Poetic-Verses from ATHANASE

Nocturne (English)

"One night, while I was sleeping…"

   Sappho

"Thus experienced from childhood on…"

   Mme de Renneville
Eudoxie (Les Jeunes personnes)

The sea, the moon and you, my tender Beatrice,
The golden lapping of this holy night
That lends to my verse the scent of nasturtiums
And the gentle clarity of an iris-woven sky!

Translated from the French of Athanase Vantchev de Thracy by Peter Hill
