Nurturing Mommy
we were fed at your breast
You did what came natural
and gave us only the best
Teaching us right from wrong
and teaching us to walk
some people would say
you taught me TOO well to talk
Loving Mommy
with your arms open wide
to wrap tight around us
when we hurted inside
And the boo boos on the outside
you kissed and made better
And changed nasty cloth diapers
before we got wetter
Always remember
you're loved & you're wanted
You told us this often
so we were not daunted
Do unto others
as you would have them do unto you
Compassion and empathy
these were taught to us too
Be kind to your neighbor
and offer a hand
If you suffer an injustice
be strong, take a stand
We do not judge people
by the color of their skin
You taught us not to be prejudice
but to let friendship begin
Of your love for your family
there were no ifs, or maybes
singing "You are my sunshine"
to your kids and grandbabies
You were my leader at home
and for Campfire Girls too
my role model as a mother
I hope I do it as well as you
You taught us forgiveness
and turning the other cheek
and to remember the good times
when our day seemed so bleak
You taught us good manners
and to not start a fight
If people say I'm a kind soul
I say that's cuz I was raised right
Your heart's desire as a mother
was your kids' happiness
and I hope that you left here
knowing you were a success
I know it was hard, Mom
when Daddy left you behind
You two had such a strong bond
you don't every day find
But you knew you'd rejoin him
and be together again someday
I picture you square dancing in Heaven
and I miss you more than my poem can say
And if Daddy is teasing you
cuz he missed it, the booger
if you hear a growl outside the pearly gates
remember it's ONLY a cougar
I'll console myself knowing
Grandma Fear's there with you
and Paco, and Taffy,
your meow fluffs there too
And you've got your big brother
Herbie has the path lit
but if there's report cards in Heaven
I'd ask someone else to read it
You were always supportive
and loved us unconditionally
You were everything, Mommy
that a mom and grandma should be
I love you Mommy,
Kathy
