Blood red is the poppy
A sign of Remembrance Day
A very special Sunday
Where we all have our own way
Of commemorating those Veterans
From wars of bygone years
Without their endeavours
We might still live in fear
The boldest of men
An elite group of their own
Some barely twenty years
To battle they were thrown
Without a backward glance
Nor weeping a drop
They marched their way forward
Determined not to stop
Many foundered in the field
Honours steeped on them high
For our sake's they ventured
Knowing a chance they might die
The lists are endless
Those names made a heroic mark
Please don't forget them
In hours of dark
Others came home again
To families whittled by fear
Delirious to recapture
Those young boys and dears
Lest not forget ever
The valiant promise they willingly gave
In order our country
Would fight on in faith
