FRETTING
I woke up fretting
My heart thudding like a drum
A nightmare draped over me
Worried thoughts that had come
Was my life really a dream
Had you been sent to me as a gift
Or had the demon's cruel hand
Snatched you away in a drift
Too good to be true
You pervaded my solitary life
And then you had been cut from it
Dissected by venomous knife
I woke up fretting
Covered in tormented confusion
But glimpsed you there, sleeping sweetly
Merely devilish illusion
