Don the mask
Bring forth the king
He makes rise
In me the mantle
Of power that otherwise
Lay in the depths
Take the mask off
And the ordinary
Returns
And the power leaves me
Like the crab that had vacated
The shell…
Lain empty to be beaten
By the unrelenting waves
Of humanity.
Don the mask
Of the wolf
And feel my shoulders drop
And limbs replaced
By paws and claws
And a sweet young thing
Crossed my path
I want to devour…
Them…
To howl at the moon
To run with my pack
But I return the mask
To the rack.
Don the mask
A skull painted with vines
Grass and green for hair
And a delicious glint
Flashes in my eyes
My head twists and turns
Body moves on its own
And Iwant to run after
People in the streets
Cackling with jubilant glee
Not giving a sh$#!
About who runs from me,
Reluctantly I take it off,
And give it back.
Don the mask
And you are given permission
To be who ever you wish to be
It's the hero's protection
The commander of attention
The allowance to express
And move in a way
We wouldn't otherwise
Do.
Don the mask
And empower yourself,
Even if only for a little while.
