Poetic-Verses from ATHANASE

AS IF IT WERE A DREAM (English)

       ('ενυπνιώδες)

For Côme

"Not a windless day
The chimes that sound in the wind
Serve as shelter for the bees"

          Ikenishi Gonsui

The night will be beautiful;
Already the sky has laid out is treasures
Of golden magnolias
And the sea has opened the most beautiful page
Of its moving book.

I know that you will come tonight,
O my Lord,
You have such need of my blue love!

You know:
The trembling of my flesh,
The exaltation of the whole of matter
Are chaos ordered into cosmos!

I know! The void does not exist,
Cannot exist!
All is life and being!

Nothingness
Is but a malicious invention,
An unbreathable aberration
Of the suffocating spirit
That turns away its face
From Your face.

Your word sounds
In the chimes of the soul,
Pure offering, like honey of the bees!

Upright, I am awake!
I know that
Your heart, my tender Lord,
Waits to be spoken!

Translated from the French of Athanase Vantchev de Thracy by Peter Hill
