 The Dolphin

(Normally my writings are short and simple. Every once in a while I'll come up with something longer like this one which is kind of like a short story.)

The Dolphin

She was staring out at the ocean on a warm summer day
Watching all the seagulls and the seals as they played
Her mind begins to wander like the clouds in the sky
Her future she does ponder and her dreams begin to fly

She walks down to the beach, feels the sand between her toes
The mist from the ocean brings a salt smell to her nose
The cool breeze in the air feels good against her skin
Out in the distance, she sees what looks like a fin

Dancing amongst the waves is a Bottle Nosed Dolphin
Playing with the seaweed that grows within the ocean
He seemed kind of friendly as he came close to the shore
Teasing all the crabs that lined the ocean floor

As she kept on watching, she thinks about her dreams
Of playing with the Dolphins, how real it used to seem
The Dolphin called her name; at least she thought she heard
She glanced in his direction; she thought she saw him smirk

She finally got the courage to venture in the water
She noticed by her feet a playful young Sea Otter
Deeper she did venture, the water reached her neck
The Dolphin swam up closer; she felt so much respect

He looked this young girl over, then caught her by surprise
He came up right beside her; he had her mesmerized
The Otter stood by watching: a friendship did begin
The Dolphin touched her shoulder; she grabbed his dorsal fin

He started swimming slowly; she felt a rush inside
He started going faster; this was her dream joyride
She held his fin so tight and felt his soft grey skin
She started feeling peaceful; she felt it deep within

The Dolphin he was cautious; he didn't go real fast
He knew that she was happy and wanted it to last
She saw the ocean bottom through the clearness of the water
Then out of nowhere came the young Sea Otter

He came up right beside them and with a smile on his face
He motioned to the Dolphin; they started to race
The Dolphin picked up speed with the Otter right beside him
She couldn't help but notice, how fast that he could swim

She wasn't even worried for this was so much fun
It was something special; a friendship had begun
The day was getting late; she had to get back home
But she was very grateful; a good time they had shown

She gave each friend a kiss with tears in her eyes
This day she won't forget; the little Otter cries
On her way back home she turns to look around
She sees her two best friends with faces full of frowns

As she reaches home she begins to cry
Will she ever see them? Was this their last goodbye?
The very next morning before the sun could rise
She went down to the beach to watch the rising tide

And there in the distance playing in the ocean
Were her two best friends, the Otter and the Dolphin
Their friendship never ended and to this very day
You can see the three of them as they swim and play
