Alchologically Speaking

There's a peculiar type of clarity
After six hours drinking in a bar
You can maybe walk on water
Or reach out and stroke a star

The answer to so many questions
Is there clearly in your head
Tomorrow the world will know
But just now you need your bed
So you shout a loud goodnight
And then you start to think
Perhaps just a littler longer
For just another little drink

And the minutes turn to hours
And the little drink to two or three
And the solution to everything
Is there plain for all to see
And you wake up next morning
And you stagger out of bed
Trying to ignore the hammers
Playing Reveille inside your head

And civilisation suffers
Oh what those last drinks cost
For the mind is drained and empty
And all those solutions lost
And what should have been the start
Of a brand spanking new way
Turns out to be just another one
In a line of long grey dreary days

You can maybe walk on water
Or reach out and stroke a star
There's a peculiar type of clarity
After six hours drinking in a bar
