Heart Of The Matter
All Too Brief Encounter
You saw me,
Gazing,
Lost in thought,
Paying homage,
To a misty moon,
Lost in my world,
I failed to notice you,
Failed to see you there,
I felt your gaze,
Turned around,
I saw you,
Met your eyes,
Lost in thought,
Lost souls, we two,
Together,
Paying homage,
To a misty moon,
You looked away,
Embarrassed, I did too,
Were you a poet?
An artist on the shore,
Or merely a stranger,
An all too brief encounter,
To be gone for evermore,
I sat on the jetty,
The stranger passed me by,
Acknowledged,
With a brief hello,
That really meant goodbye.
Linda Harnett, ©2007
One of those moments when you think you're alone but discover you're not, someone appears from nowhere and there's this awkwardness.
You don't know what to say,
So, we say "Hello", and go on our way.
