MOORS
On Yorkshire moors
Winter's afternoon
The sky is perfect
Holds shadow of the moon
A cold wind drives
And branches sway with ease
A woolly sheep glances up
As bold as you please
Nibbling the edges
Of a fading year
I pull my collar
And stifle a tear
Previous months bear wing
And swiftly inflame
Those summer dates
To a December name
Silent heather hugging the kerb
It's purple tinge gone
I'm reminded of Wuthering Heights
That Heathcliffe had stood upon
His icy stare
As he clambered the strides
Though they have disappeared
Emily's memory survives
The moon now shines
I can hear a distant bell
For a freezing cold winter
And a snowy spell
