 reflections

call of the soul

it seems we are always beginning on a new life
behind the corporate skyscrapers and luxury hotels
there is plenty of human happiness to be found
yet many of us are fighting a ghost
and in private we are mercilessly self-critical

at first one can do nothing much at all
if no opportunity was going to arise naturally
yet you don't ask God to give you things
once this underlying significance is grasped
the meaning is clear

whether he called it faith that things would work out
no longer mattered
he had been having a recurring dream
a metaphor for the call of the soul
a story that had begun to come alive

there was excitement in the air
it was all he could do to keep his attention focused
you don't think about these things
they just happens
and every day is a day of discovery
in which everyone must create their own future

from the moment he stopped looking
he knew he had found her
when the mind is free of distractions
and the emotions are free of fears
it will surpass all other feelings

the heart should be neither fickle nor promiscuous
nor the head narrow-minded
put quite simply
she could never be replaced
some people have no inkling of what they are really looking for
well you've got to start someplace
