KEY   IN   THE   DOOR

I force myself to stay awake at night
As I lay in the midnight hour
For as soon as I hear your key in the door
I'm refreshed with the loving power

Each time you work late I toss and turn
My head swims and my heart's in a knot
Will you find your way back home to me
Or might you rather wish you had forgot

A million ticks I count as the clock sails
As many sheep as I wait for the lock
Moonlit minutes stand guard at my side
My heartbeat thuds in an attempt to mock

The purring of a car engine arrives
A halt then you are at my door
Suddenly all the blue oceans appear
And you stand washed upon my shore
