Friendships

If the fire is not rekindled
Its flame will soon die out
The way friends slowly drift apart
When time leads them to doubt.

Like buckets without bottoms
Or cisterns that run dry
We sometimes feel that emptiness
And seldom question why.

But is it really such a shock
When losing a good friend
After we have been neglectful
And failed that fire to tend?

So let's make every effort
To keep that flame alive
And make sure by our diligence
That friendships will survive
